Another tax question

Hi,

I looked through the IR site but thought it would be best to turn to the local experts for advice

Basically I work as a software developer. The key points from the site (as I gather) to whether or not something falls under HK tax is:

1) Where the contract is enforcible
2) Where the employer is based
3) Where the payment is made

In my case all of the above is in the UK. Of course I am however typing away merrily in HK. I would therefore expect to be liable to HK tax - but I'm not sure...

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance as always!

If you are a Hong Kong resident, and receive payment from an overseas company for work performed in Hong Kong, then you are liable to Hong Kong tax.

That's what I figured.

Pity really.

Why? As a basic rule of thumb you have to be liable to tax somewhere, and I'd far rather be liable to HK tax than UK tax.

Oh definitely. The UK tax system is horrendous. I would much rather be liable in HK than in the UK

I assumed I would be liable in HK - just wanted to make sure I wasn't paying tax for no reason
