Oh, I read it as he had a uni degree. My mistake.

That said, will the guys at the immigration department know the difference between a higher diploma, a HND and a BSc? I think they'll still recognise alternative education to a certain extent too. Still, technically he did graduate university, just with a higher diploma rather than a full degree.

I know a kindergarten native English teacher who managed to get a work permit without a degree, he was about 20 years old so frankly I just think he had his TEFL. That was a few years back though.

Well, it's his choice. Marriage will solve everything with the dependant visa, or he could have another shot at the work permit and make sure it's all correct and appropriately polished. I still think he can get a work permit as a native English teacher.

I will give the Immigration a call and see what they say. I'll post back what happens. I gave the other Language Center a call today too, but I may have missed my chance. The guy said he will give me a call in the next few days as he is interviewing a guy coming all the way from the Mainland tomorrow.

As for the marriage, it's been put of the backburner now as I don't think we are in the right frame of mind to go through with it. Sure, it may just be a few minutes in a solicitors office. Sure she can see the sense and convenience of it, but it's a pretty big deal and I don't want her to feel pressured into anything.

As for the "University Graduate" discussion... I received my Higher Diploma 'In Absentia' so I'm not entirely sure if I truly graduated. Rather I simply did two years and they gave me the award for passing those years. I could go back to the UK and do the final year if I wanted, but I don't see much point now I wish to stay in HK for good. I tried the Open University of HK, but it sounded highly unlikely I could complete my degree here. The response I got didn't fully understand my situation.

Thanks to everyone for their responses.
