Passport or Home Return Permit for Beijing

Hi everyone

I will be going to Beijing during the Olympics for work.

and of course am having a torrid time with my visa application.

I hold both an Australian passport and HKID+Home return permit.

Work is organizing all the necessary documentation for my official "work" visit which is all good and well, however figuring I am already over there I would do a bit of traveling after my work is done.

However I am required to possess certification of my accommodation for the rest of my trip before my visa would be approved, I just haven't and still don't have the time to look never mind booking my whole trip.

and thus I am leaning to entering with my Home return permit to avoid all the hassle.

My concerns are:
1. Is the home return permit valid for all of China or only entries boardering on HK

2.Will it void my rights for Australian consular assistance

3. Will it void my travel insurance (organized by work)

thank you for all your time and help in advance

Your Home Return Permit is valid in all of China. I believe that you only need your Australian passport and your Home Return Permit to board the plane, assuming that you are not stopping at HK. You should have consulate assistance from AU. I don't know about travel insurance though.

You're considered a Chinese citizen regardless of the travel document you arrive on since you retained your Chinese citizenship. The only way, you can enjoy foreign consular service in HK/Macau and Mainland China is if you declare a change of nationality through the immigration authorities in Hong Kong.

If you declare a change of nationality, you'll no longer be considered a Chinese citizen and you'll lose the right to your home return permit. Whether you can retain your ROA depends on your previous residency in Hong Kong.
