The best deal with 3 for GPRS is like HK$488 for 30MB or something ludicrous.

I don't see the point of getting an iPhone with 3 as they don't have EDGE. Unless they come out with a good deal for 3g unlimited and the iPhone is 3g, you are better of using peoples and a hacked iPhone.

Also the battery duration on EDGE is far better than 3G which is one of the reasons why they didn't put in a 3G modem originally.

but...there is a on-off switch for 3G...alllowing you to benefit from the speed when needed, and turn it off when using normal calls.

does anyone actually use 3G "video" calls?

To charge this kind of money is just insane. It would be much better to operate the rumored 3G (hacked?) iPhone on EDGE and on PEOPLES than paying 3 if they charge anything like they do now.

On off? 3g works like that voice is one thing, data works at 3g rates. same for EDGE, same for GPRS. On of switch or what have you.

3g video calls are irrelevant. The issue here is you have modem that runs at at round 30% faster than an EDGE modem and that it guzzles more battery. The question is whether you do get 30% more throughput on from the network or not. On 3, I doubt it, they run their network pretty close to capacity at least on voice and GPRS.

That is rumor I read from newspapers said 3HK is not exclusively selling iPhone in Hong Kong. Ｉ am gonna wait and get the iPhone from other mobile services operators. Bad experience once used 3HK before.
