Taxes to pay if buying U.S. stocks in HK? Is there any taxes involved if you buy U.S. stocks / ADRs to your HSBC investment account here in HK, and you are HK resident and otherwise not liable to no other tax on this planet?

If you are a foreign citizen for USA tax laws, then only tax you will pay will be dividend withholding tax. However if you are greencard holder, then you will have to file USA tax returns and declare any profit or loss.

but remember to fill in the form that justify that you are a non-taxable non-residence. else they will have a withholding on you. as for US citizens, chances are hsbc will not even want to let them start investment.

Got one dividend now, 28% withholding tax was deducted + 150 HKD handling fee. Hopefully no other taxes will pop up especially when selling with profit.
