Rent still going up??

Since I joined this forum in January it seems the rents have gone up a lot. Our rent range is 18 - 22k, so we are getting more worried about finding somewhere for a family of 4.
What are your feelings?

Apparently so.

Suggestions? I'd mention village houses in the NT, BUT they're usually too outta the way for small families without a car. And with this wet season's increasing humidity and mugginess, some of the older clusters of flats there mightn't be as comfy as what you're used to...

Sure someone else here has more upbeat info

If your kids are young, my best suggestion is the Country Park - although you really have to move quickly because houses go fast.

It is quite a significant 'hike' into town but many families who live there feel the location is great for (younger) kids and that it's worthwhile.

The buses stop relatively early in the evening but, with a young family, the few taxis you would take would still probably be cheaper than running a car.

If the kids are older, however, and involved in a lot of activities - it's probably not the place to be.

Hi Judy
Thanks so much for your answers. I have enjoyed reading your website.
My kids are 12 and 9, and we do like rural.
I'll be commuting into Kowloon to work.
Thank you for any insights.

The village that i live in Clear Water Bay, an expat couple just rented a duplex, 3 bedroom on top floor, living room on middle floor, 1400 sqft with 700sq roof for 22k, brand new village house just built last year.

My other neighbor has the same but with different format as her duplex is on the ground and 1st floor, older building but still 1400 sqft with 200 sqft garden, only cost her 15K.

big difference in rents, one of the main reasons is villagers know that expats can pay more or have housing allowance so they usually pay what ever the owners ask for if it meets their allowance. This is why lot of the houses in my area have nearly doubled in rents.

u will still find lots of good deals in our area but they do go fast, u should trying coming over and meeting with the agents and see whats available and move fast.

Thank you wtbhotia for your reply,
1400 ft would do us well enough. I'm glad to hear there may be something out there.

Glad to hear that, too.

May've suggested looking at a coupla 3-floor village houses (my brothers'), but recently sorted out renewal agreements with most of our existing tenants, already. And, anyhow, the ole hilly village's MORE outta the way than Clear Water Bay or SK.

Wish you well on your flat hunting.
