I think the original poster's (Master) view of Superman and the subsequent Wanchai Lothario revision are two obviously different things.

The typical men in Wanchai are just doing the age old 'sex for money' thing, if they're not actually paying for sex, that's what's attracting the women to them. This exists all over the world, not just Wanchai.

Master's original Superman observation is basically just 'exotic = attractive'. Which is true usually. As long as you stand out from the crowd in a good way, you're more attractive and have an increased status. Here 'a good way' is often common in young western men - tall, fair skin, bigger body size, possibly different hair and eye colours. There's nothing bizarre about it - local Hong Kong guys who possess the same attributes have it good too! It just so happens those attributes are more common and normal in western men, so we stand out in HK for them where we'd be normal at home.

The same thing happens in other countries too. In England, if you're a tall, dark skinned latino guy - you're probably going to do much better with the ladies than a local guy. Cuts both ways.

Sadly, not true. Or rather, it's not always that straightforward here in Asia.

What's not true - that they're paying for sex, or that they're not paying but money is the girls main motivator?

I think that pretty much covers the possibilities.

Except the third "get a western passport" but that sort of falls in with one of the previous ones.

The last part is a bit of western myth (that all asian girls want to get their hands on a western passport). I guess I have spoken to several hundred Filipinas, WGs and not WGs, and I don't think any of them has desperately wanted this. I am not saying there aren't some, I just think its a small minority. Apart from anything else many of them already have husbands, partners, children who they do not wish to permanently leave.
