Need information on best place to buy quality mens shoes: dress and sports.

For less than $1000 hk if it is that then you have no chance of getting anything decent for that money.

$3000 plus and you'll get something decent.

Oh and I'll second that on Church too.

I beg to differ. Plenty of brands that work just fine for me in the $700-800 range (which is about the most that I would pay for shoes - what with the amount of walking you do in this town and the nasty weather and rain).

Florsheim & Rockports would be my choice. Good deals available from outlets in Wing On and can be found discounted often.

A pair of either last me for a good two years.

Put me in the group of people who just does not get fashion, if you must, but I seriously am not about to go spend US$ 1K on a pair of shoes.

A small rant about Churches, as I have a friend who has a "special pair" from there... who in this day and age needs a pair of shoes that comes with a maintenance and storage procedure that is more complicated than most voodoo rituals?

Its not about fashion as such, Its about quality of materials.

I'd rather spend $4000 on a pair of shoes and it lasts years barring the occasional re-soleing than spend less and having to ditch them after a year because the stitchings gone etc.

Bet you'd be more worried about stepping in a puddle than getting run over by a car with those shoes.

If you wear your shoes every day and walk as much and as carelessly as I do, $4K worth of shoes are going to last as long as a $700 pair.

For cheap shoes (i.e. under HK$1000) then Johnston Road in Wanchai has probably 20 shops more or less side by side which should give you all the choice you want.

Zara has shoes under 1.000 (range of 600-700HKD),
Lane Crawford has big discount in July and December/January that put the shoes at between 800 and 1.500 more or less)

I have to agree with KIA on that one, >4K in a pair of shoes is not that easy to justify...

Seconding the recommendation of Florsheims at Wing On. Off memory they are a bit higher than the 1k mark, but not by much.

I think that any brands that are significantly less expensive than Florsheims start to look really naff for a dress shoe. IMO they really are the minimum standard for an office shoe.

What's a "sports shoe"? I assume you're not talking about a pair of Adidas.
