I was born in in Hong Kong.

We need a little more information. Were you a HK Citizen when you were born? What passport did you hold before you naturalised as a US Citizen?

Did your wife renounce her Chinese Citizenship, or is she a dual national? (i.e. still holding or eligible for a Chinese passport)

Were you (still) a HK Citizen when your kids were born?

But the minimum case, assuming your wife has lived outside the mainland for at least a year is that she and your children would be granted Dependant Visas were they to move to HK with you. This would probably take about 4-6 weeks.

It may be possible to get much more than that, but (assuming she has lived outside China for a year) you would certainly all be able to come and live here (and work/study freely).

When I was born, I was Hong Kong citizen. I have HK birth certificate, I have HK id, I have HK passport (I do not have HK passport now)

I have HK passport before I naturalized to become US citizen and have US passport now.

My wife did not surrender her chinese citizenship, she became US citizen through naturalization when she was 18, now she has US passport.
She legally immigrant to US with her parents when she was 13

Not sure she is eligable for Chiness passport or HK passport or HK id

I am not an expert on this, but I think the situation is:

Since you never renounced your HK citizenship you could simply renew your HK Passport if you wish.

Your wife could not get a HK Passport. However, she would be granted a Dependant Visa within 4-6 weeks. After 7 years residence in HK she could apply for HK Permanent Residency and then, perhaps since she has never renounced Chinese citizenship for a HK passport (not sure about this).

For your kids, since you did not renounce your HK/Chinese citizenship then I think this page says that they were entitled to the Right of Abode at birth, but if they have not been in HK every 3 years since then they will have lost that and will now be entitled to Right to Land. For all practical purposes this is the same thing (no vote and they could be deported for serious offences).

For your wife's dependant visa, you cannot apply online, but you can download the forms and guidance notes on the Immigration Department website:

You can then submit to your local Chinese embassy/consulate or direct by mail to HK Immigration.

Alternatively, since your wife would get a 3 month visitor visa as a US citizen you could apply once you are here. It will take about 6 weeks. This is probably the most convenient way.

As I stated in the previous post I believe your kids can get a HK ID with Right to Land. Again probably the most convenient way is for them to enter on their US passports as 3 month visitors and then apply here. This will take a bit longer than your wife's visa.

I believe the process is that they apply for Right of Abode, are told that the would have it except that they have been absent from HK for more than 3 years, and hence they will be granted Right to Land.

When apply dependent visa for my wife and HK id for my kid, do they have yo apply in person? Can we just mail all doc to HK. How about pick up, is it need to pick up in person in HK or US office.

I try to mail all doc to HK office first, then when I go to HK, I can just pick up. Save waiting time in HK. Will this work?

Do it all when you get to Hong Kong. Your wife and kids enter on their US passports and get 3 months Visitors Visas.

When your wife gets the Dependant Visa then she can immediately apply for a HKID card. She will get a temporary card instantly and the real plastic card two weeks later. Just to be clear, she will be a non-permanent resident until she has resided here for 7 years. But she will have the right to work or study freely.

When were your kids born ? If they were born after July 1 1997 , they won't be eligible for Right to Land. You will have to sponsor them along with your wife as dependants.

One of my kid was born before July 1, 1997 and the others after July 1, 1997.

The one before, can he apply HK ID

Those after, is it mean they have to apply dependent visa?
