How is the middle office IB market in HK now?

I'm considering coming to HK to look for a job as a product controller in derivatives. Looking for entry level jobs. Have a degree in math and 1 internship in product control.

The market in the US hasn't beed good, especially in credit derivatives. A couple years ago, I heard that some jobs in HK were being moved to Singapore because of cheaper labour and rent. How is the market in HK now? Assuming that I have alright communication skills, HK permanent resident, would it be difficult to find a job? If yes, is a base salary of around 30K/month realistic?

as i am working in an IB i can say that opportunities are good but most of the companies are on cost cutting trial and removing lots and lots of employees .. they want to decrease the experienced ones and get new ones whom they can pay less and keep..

agree with shresti

think it's is still good in HK,

I heard that too , MO are moved to Singapore (not specifically from HK, could be other place such as TKY) , cheaper labor maybe yes, but for rent I don't think it's true anymore.

heard rent prices trend in Singapore are catching up with HK

Thanks for the replies. A couple more questions if I may.

When you say experienced, how many years of experience are you referring to? When they are laid off, where do they usually end up?

And the new hires with less experience, are they the usual candidates from Big 4 with financial audit experiences or are they fresh graduates?

Are HK IBs good to work for in general? i.e good work culture? Are there ones which are particularly good or bad in reputation workwise?
