Verdelium is on a distinguished road
Accomodation with access to central

Hi All,

Looking for some advice.

Will be moving to Hong Kong soon and interested in looking for a place to rent for 2 years.

Budget is around 10k +- 2k. Would like 2 bedroom if possible but 1 bedroom is fine. Don't need any facilities except cable tv and internet

Would like a place where I can be in the office within 30mins... office located at IFC.

I was considering discovery bay, but would like to check whether during heavy rains, the ferries still run?

Any input and helpful advice is welcome.

Send a message via ICQ to wtbhotia
best choice would be western district, places like kennedy town, sai ying pun.

Have you been to HK before? It's tiny and public transport is fast. Most neighbourhoods in HK are within 30 minutes of IFC.

At a 10-12k budget, wtbhotia's recommendations are pretty much spot on.

DB or Park Island are good options if you want more space for your budget and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the city.

Both are accessible within 30 minutes to IFC. Extremely rare that ferries do not run and if happens can still get to Central by bus n MTR

Are DB places still available for that kind of budget? I thought the rents had gone up markedly this year.

hmmm would not really recommend Park Island, unless you really like to feel isolated, the place is not even that quiet considering that you hear the planes pretty clearly and the bridge is kind of a visual pollution...in my view if you like quiet and far off the city, you are better choosing DB, GoldCoast area or Sai kung, but not Park Island.

For 10/12 K you should be able to find places on HK Island (Kennedy Town, Sai Ying pun, Tin Hau, Sai Wan Ho). In DB you can find for that prices too and as said before, ferries run in case of heavy rain.

Other alternative is OLYMPIC which is only 2 MTR stations from the IFC and provides lots of choices for the 10-13K budget

Ok, I might be biased. But PI is really a lot less isolated compared to DB. You have ferry to Central and to Tsuen Wan, buses to Tsing Yi, Kwai Fong, Tsuen Wan, and the Airport. Within 10-15 minutes you have access to at least 3 major shopping malls and transport hubs.
The island itself might be smaller, but it is very accessible and there is hardly a place in HK you can reach better if you live in DB.

I have heard that some people complain about the planes here on the forum, but our flat is really dead quiet.

About the visual pollution... that is a very interesting one. I always believed the distant view of the bridge is a highlight of our flat, but of course taste is different.

Anyway, I should keep quiet, keeps the rent down
10K gets you a very decent sized flat here by the way.
