Obviously there are people that don't like Park Island and we Park Islanders are happy with that as it helps to keep rentals low. But seriously, I work and live in Park Island and I hardly hear planes at all. If the planes are such a problem, the primary school wouldn't be here. There are probably more complaints about the teachers speaking over the PA systems then the planes. Actually, I here more honking from the ships than the planes.

For 10/12 K you should be able to find places on HK Island (Kennedy Town, Sai Ying pun, Tin Hau, Sai Wan Ho). In DB you can find for that prices too and as said before, ferries run in case of heavy rain.

Other alternative is OLYMPIC which is only 2 MTR stations from the IFC and provides lots of choices for the 10-13K budget

Have to defend PI. In terms of access pretty much anywhere, DB and the Gold Coast are more remote than Park Island.

The plane noise is far less disruptive than any major road I have ever lived near. Very little difference in plane noise between DB and PI.

The bridge is one of Hong Kong's landmarks, and IMO can only be called visual pollution if you would call Hong Kong Island's skyline visual pollution.

Also when I was looking 3 months ago, any flats on the island in that price range where 400-500sq foot, old, poor layout and no lifts. New flats in Olympic in that price range where 500sq ft and 2 bedroom. no room to swing the proverbial

leghk,

Don't promote PI anymore....We've looking at moving to a bigger apartment and we seriously don't want the rentals to go up. And yes, the noise, is probably from the ferry loads of local visitors from Kowloon, HK Island, wherever they are from, on the weekends. They drive me mad every weekend.

sorry sunniefaith,

I am leaving Hong Kong and Park Island and trying to rent my apartment!!!!!!!!

But no more promotion. Would like to return to PI in the near future, and would not want it to become too expensive.

I knew my comments would bring a string of reply from PI residents...;-)

Was there this weekend and honeslty when you are on the "beach" the bridge is far from being a Landmark...donno you but when I go to the beach I am not so fond of seeing a big bridge right in front of me...

The noise pollution I was refering to is not INSIDE the flat but more when you are outside on the "beach" for example...

Btw the Goldcoast area is far less isolated since you have Tuen Mun which is reachable 24/24 by minibus in less than 5 minutes......

Anyway to go back to the OP questions I would recommend, unless you want big complex with faciliites (ie PI, goldCoast, DB...) to stay on the Island or TST/olympic

The island itself might be smaller, but it is very accessible and there is hardly a place in HK you can reach better if you live in DB.

I have heard that some people complain about the planes here on the forum, but our flat is really dead quiet.

About the visual pollution... that is a very interesting one. I always believed the distant view of the bridge is a highlight of our flat, but of course taste is different.

Anyway, I should keep quiet, keeps the rent down
10K gets you a very decent sized flat here by the way.
I second pretty much everything there...the one thing that does p**s me off with PI is the amount of 'tour groups' that invade every weekend!! I can't believe people actually pay to be taken on a trip to a housing development! I would quite like to see resident cards being required to travel to the island personally - but maybe a bit extreme!? ...although my gfirend did (tongue in cheek) advocate on the recent residents comittee form thing - a 'residents' first' policy for transport, ie if your a tourist/visitor you have to give up your seat to a resident
