Cheung Chau Bun Tradition?

We went to the Cheung Chau Bun Festival today and bought traditional buns. As we were eating them, a vendor told us that we were not supposed to eat them but hang them on the door until they get moldy, which brings richness. Please let me know if she was just "pulling our chain."

Hey, I was there yesterday as well. I actually got to join in the parade. Proud to be the only gwei lo in there.

I don't know about hanging the buns up to get moldy. I saw tons of people eating them, didn't look like they were saving them...
