I'm obviously missing something here. Exactly why are lots of Cantonese oldies fighting to get their hands on a crappy English-language newspaper? Surely they cannot resell it or read it?

My recent new thread may seem like I don't, but indeed, I'm with you on this one. I think it's very sad to see the elderly that clearly should be enjoying their days, doing these sort of jobs to get by. In the building where I work, there's an old man. I swear he must be past eighty, and he's cleaning the restrooms. I mean, that's just wrong. It's like I want to go and ask him how much he earns every month, and then just pay him...

- Something to do
- In case there are any discount offers inside
- To line the birdcage
- Collect 100 and sell them for 5 dollars for recycling

My thoughts only.

If you saved your copies of the Standard till you had a catty [20 ounces] and popped over to your friendly scrap dealer, the amount he would give you for your catty of Standards divided by the number of copies which made up the catty would work out to 13 cents.
But that was back in May, don't have a clue to the latest per copy value-is it any wonder that this job leads to so many wrinkles?
