DIY Electronics parts store like radio shack?

Anyone know where I can get electronics parts for a Do-it-yourself electronics project? I'm talking about soldering iron, solder, breadboard, resistors, capacitors, common IC's, etc. Stuff you'd find in the back of any Radio Shack or a Fry's store (in the West USA). Something like Mouser Electronics - but not like DealExtreme.com. (Mouser has every possible IC, Resistor, Cap, etc, whereas DealExtreme has a hodgepodge selection, but mostly overstock of electronics - unless I'm missing something.)

For instance, one IC I need is a 555 CMOS Timer chip. Really common. Easily obtainable in stock in any Radio Shack.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
AsiaJason

Second Apliu Street in Sham Shui Po.

There are also a number of specialist electronics shops in Wan Chai e.g Hong Kong Peak Electronic in Jaffe Road and others but Apliu Street is the main place.

Yup, Ap Liu Street is the place. Just get off at Sham Shui Po MTR station and head to the Ap Liu Street exit. I could spend a whole afternoon there

To narrow your search down a bit...

WECL Online

The WECL store is in ApLiu Street. It's a busy place even on a quiet day. Look for the WECL sign, same logo as the web site. You can see it above the street stalls on your left as you exit the MTR onto Apliu St.
Ground floor is mostly AV/CCTV stuff, go upstairs.
I'd be very surprised if it doesn't have what you want. I saw everything you mentioned when I was there last weekend.

Thanks everyone! Yep - Dot.Zen - you are right on. I just happened to come across it online somewhere (i think Kit's R Us - which is warehouse only, but also on Apliu) Their website listed local places as their distributors - and Welfare was right down the street.

I would have never found it if I didn't find it on the web first. Crazy. But it's better than any frys or radio shack by far!

Thanks!
