Need to produce HKID to enter China (Lo Wu)

Just came through Lo Wu and the Chinese immigration officials demanded I produce my HKID card.
For those without the card, they were asking to see the stamp that HK immigration put in the passport.
Creating some longer than normal lines at immigration as this seems to be new.
Yet another policy change, I imagine. I wonder how they thought I could have made it to their spot on the bridge without passing through HK immigration?

You cross the Chinese border 5 days a week from Clear Water Bay; how long does that commute take?

This morning they didn't ask for it. But they did ask my co-worker who went through maybe 45 minutes earlier. (Which, in my mind, is just another reason to sleep in.)

I have only been asked for my id card once, that was a long time ago, ever since they have never asked me, i usually cross over on the lok ma chau side, dont like the lowu side.

Going up is slighty faster about 1.35-45 hrs, comming back takes me 2 hours as i need to change 2 different minibuses to get get home after getting of the cross border bus. total aprox 4 hours travelling everyday, if i visit factories then its usually another 4 hours added which only leaves me a few hours in the factory. By the time i get home my arse and back hurts so much from sitting in cars all day.

Thought it would be that long. Too long for me. I'll keep my hour long commute.
Just figuire the HKID is part of the ever-changing PRC visa/immigration policy.
