go to a tailor or buy a suit from H&M?

I'm a 23 year old from Nottingham, UK but now based out in Hong Kong.

I wear a range of different styled clothing however my casual look is combat styled shorts, zoo york/stussy t-shirts and some old skool Jordans on my feet!

I get alot of my smarter clothing from H&M but now i'm looking at investing in my first PROPER suit as i have a wedding to attend here in HK on 17th May and also need on for my new job as a EFL teacher even though i'm a fresh graduate from in the production field.

I have no idea on what colour suit to get i like the look of a nice charcoal grey or dark grey
I love the look of the really slim fitting suits. So something contemporary and is a must.

Saw a nice suit in H&M over here in Hong Kong which is cheap.
The other option is i try out a tailor over here in Hong Kong but not ever having been to one ii'm scared i'd get fleeced or would be lost on knowing what style etc to ask for.
I dont really want to spend more than $2,500 HKD which is about £160 GBP.

I guess you guys can tell about now that i'm in the dark about tailoring and suit so maybe you could lend a hand?

Quality affordable tailor

I can recommend a good quality tailor with reasonable prices and with years of experience. Pls call Albert at 6020 1774. He's made my suits for 20 years and never given me cause for complaint.

If you look at the "similar threads" section at the bottom of page, you will find a load of tailor recommendations.

My suggestion for your stated price range is:

William and Son
8C Han Hing Mansion
38 Hankow Road
Tsim Sha Tsui
2739 7888

Although there are loads of cheap tailors around anyway. Just avoid all the touts in Tsim Sha Tsui that will walk up to you asking if you want a suit.

Or just avoid the hassle and get an off the peg suit from Zara which is well within your budget, H&M and G2000 I'd avoid as they look cheap.

you can always go to shenzhen or MongKok for a tailor made suit for under $1000 HKD.

If you are a size & shape that fits off the peg suits and don't have any special requirements in terms of fabric / pockets / style / whatever (which I guess you don't if you've never owned a suit before) then I'd just go for that if I were you.

But if you're going to be wearing a suit every day for work then you'll need more than one (or at the very least you should get an extra pair of trousers for it).
