Here I come.. well hopefully

Hello

My wife and I have been offered jobs in HK.. Which is all good.. Anyway the only thing outstanding is a Visa. How hard is it to get one once you have been offered jobs.

I don’t have a degree, but loads of experience. My employer wanted me to sent them, well pretty much my whole history.. Job references, school reports, medical certificates. Chest x-rays. Apparently this is all meant to help. The HR lady doesn’t sound completely convinced that we will get our visas.

Also our doctor reckons we will need Hepatitis A and B injections.

What do you guys reckon

Usually HR is where the application gets screwed up, if the HR person does not have experience in handling visa applications.

Not too sure about the vaccination part ....

Chest Xrays??? Are you serious? It sounds like your HR person is fairly clueless. If I were you I would go and spend some time on the ImmD website ( http://www.gov.hk/immd/ ) on the application procedures and what helps and what doesn't.

Hep A & B probably not essential if you are staying in the "expat" bits of HK, but you'll probably find yourself taking long weekends to adjacent parts of Asia where they certainly might be a good idea, so I guess you should go for that.

A copy of CV plus the reference letters from your previous employers to back up your CV is important. Be sure the dates match.

Reference letters need not be long, as long as it mentions your position, responsibility and period of employment.

it seems to me that hk immigration is very systematic. so long as you have all your papers in order with t's crossed and i's dotted and dates matching and originals when they want originals and copies when they want copies, black ink writing and items paper clipped not stapled---you get the idea, they are really serious about this stuff.

take berryplucker's advice and go to the website, call them if you need clarification, in order to confirm you have provided them every reason in the world to grant you visas and none to deny. i wouldn't trust hr alone, the chest x-ray sounds kinda weird but what do i know.

Chest X-rays ...

Sounds like a teaching job. Not an immigration requirement, but a department of education requirement if I recall correctly.

Hi, I'm taking a bit of a punt here...but assuming that your User name indicates you are from New Zealand, and that you were born in 1977, you may find this site of interest:

With respect to your thoughts on Visas...
