| | | If you're moving from the US, your kids already have everything they need for HK, because the US school system demands kids be vaccinated for everything! As an adult, make sure your TB is up to date, and you have your Hepatitis shots. Some people recommend doing Japanese Encephalitis as well; it's quite rare, so it's up to you whether you have it done. | |

thank you! | As mentioned, TB, Hep A & B and maybe Japanese Encephalitis.
There is a load of info at this site Travel Health Service. But there really is not a lot to worry about in HK

| | | The US doesn't immunize against TB, I think your kids may need to get that when they arrive, we were told it was unnecessary for us to get inoculated against TB, but our kid(s?) will as they arrive, for preschool, playgroups, etc. | |

| | | I'd discuss that TB vaccination with a doctor. You will probably end up with testing positive for TB for life, which will cause you a lot of headaches back in the TB-free USA.
Yes on the hepatitis vaccinations.
Believe the polio vaccination is also different here. It is possible the US doesn't vaccinate for polio.

| | The US doesn't do TB vaccinations and most TB comes from people born outside the US.
My wife was told by an American that they opted for the TB vaccination and had to go through a whole series of tests and medications when they returned to the US because the vaccination caused a positive result. See below: Vaccines: VPD-VAC/TB/main page
And the polio vaccination here is somehow different than what the US does. Must be the oral versus injected version: Vaccines: VPD-VAC/Polio/main page

| | | tetanus booster is always a good idea too. and if you are considering travelling around southeast asia--you may want to go ahead and get the vaccinations for those countries back in the US. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 01:40 PM. | |
