| Help... Can i get HKID if my parents have HKID?? hey fellas.. i am an australian... and i am 19 years old i lived in HK when i was 9-11 years old... my step-mother is a HK citizen and my dad got his HKID via her sometime back.... i was wondering if i am eligible for HKID...cos i read somewhere that at the age of 11...children should have got an ID... anyhow, what are the best options for me to get a HKID...? thanks in advance |

| HKID is just a card. The question I think you meant to ask is whether you can claim some status (Right of Abode or Right to Land) which would give you the lifelong right to take up residence in HK; when you first did so you would then get a HKID card. And in your case I don't think so. Your father's HKID sounds like a non-permanent one as a Dependant (married to a HK citizen). Assuming your mother wasn't a HK citizen then I don't see what your claim to RoA or RTL would be. But the easy way for you to get a HKID card is to apply for a working holiday visa (available to Australians under 30). Then come here to take a mix of holiday and short term work, and you get a HKID card on arrival. But that doesn't grant you anything more than the one year working holiday visa. After the end of that year you won't have the right to live in HK any more. |
