Here's an up to date report on ninemsn regarding the food ban of our Aussie Oylmpic team.

A Current Affair - ninemsn Video

It looks like we will be standing firm on this, so with a bit of luck, Beijing see's a bit of sense, and comes to the party.

Also great story about Olivia Newton John and her Great Wall of China charity walk, to raise money for a cancer research wellness centre in Melbourne.

Long time close friend Sir Cliff Richard popped into say hi, lending his support today, as she completed the final part of her journey.

More info can be viewed on the ninemsn link I posted and also on her website. The Great Walk To Beijing 2008

I may have gotten this wrong but there was an article in the SCMP a couple of months ago where some randon food was tested in Beijing and Steroids were found in the chicken.... If you are an athlete you can not afford to take the risk of not knowing what you are eating.
When I went to Beijing I took muesli bars cos I knew I would not want to eat any food outside the hotel as I am vegetarian. If you are an athlete and are used to a strict diet why upset your system by eating 'locally' also with the huge amts of MSG used and the possibility of eating dog....... And before any says this doesn't happen I have seen the dogs outside restaurants and was told the locals like this cos they know the meat is fresh!!!!

I'm still curious about what it is that you ladies wish to protest about?

Bravo, you've managed to cross that fine line between 'sensible' and 'hysteria'. It is completely understandable that world class athletes need to obsess about their diets, but I hardly think they're going to be casually wandering down to the local street market to accidentally ingest MSG-laden dog

And in any case properly prepared dog is probably as useful as any other meat in a diet.

And American meat is heavily treated with hormones & steroids, so I guess for their consistent diet they would prefer it to stay that way.

Correct. The US is the only Western nation that allows rBST (Recombinant Bovine Somatotrophin) use in cattle. The EU does not allow it. Many American chickens are unable to walk by 50 days of age because of the steroids used on them.

It is widely known that a great deal of American livestock and cattle is treated in a manner that would make many of us nauseous.

I think you will see other nations having concerns about their athletes eating to their own diets. Not sure of other Olympics but it seems to me, it is not the time to be experimenting with a new diet.

Agreed that it is not the fear of an MSG'ed dog but more what they are used to eating for high performance.
