Pet Travel Scheme

Does anyone have experience with the Pet Travel Scheme for negating the need to place animals (in this case two cats) into quarratine when returning to the UK?

Defra, UK - Animal health and welfare - Bringing pets to Britain

Specifically, I would appreciated hearing from anybody who can recommend a Vet (in Hong Kong) who is familiar with the procedures etc and give me an idea of costs and timeframes.

Thanks!

havn't done it yet, but have researched the process as will probably be doing so at some point.

In short, yes you can take cats and dogs from HK to the UK without quarrantie under the PETS scheme.

It involves microchips, blood tests and vacinations etc and the blood test and rabis vaccination must be done at least 6 months prior to traveling to the UK.

I spoke to a Vet here and the total cost is around HK$3-4k per cat, for vetinary fees. This obviously does not include transportation costs!

I ship my cat to France and all i needed was the rabbies to be down (already have a microchip from spca). Then i contact a local pet relocation services total cost less that 4 000 hkd include the transportation and the crate. (could be more expensive depend the size of your pet mine was a tiny cat.)

Hi DanielandHaley,

I have started the whole process ie:

blood test taken to check rabies anti-bodies, this takes about 1 month to receive official p/work.

Have just had a quote to ship 1 JRT to London & including freight charges, handling fees, crate etc..it was HK$14,500.

This does not include vets fees. Blood titre test cost approx HK$1500.

Once blood test comes back, the animal must remain in HK for 6 months before being allowed into UK.

Its pricey but quarantine is not an option for my little guy.
