Exclamation HK Dependant Visa - Self Employment (Consultancy): Possible?

Dear all,

My wife (German National, No HK Resident) will get a working visa for Hongkong. But our final decision to go to Hong Kong now depends on the availability for working options for me (German National) as a 'Dependant'. I am currently working as a Consultant for Agricultural Training in Asia, being currently the 'Independant'.

After reading Immigration Publications on 'Visa for Dependants', still there are open questions, such as:

1) What does the HK Immigration mean by 'good' Educational Background. I am currently holding both a MS Agriculture and a MM Business Management Degree.

2) For me as Dependant, what provisions would the new Immigration Policy give me for Self Employment (Free-Lanced Consultant)?

3) What provisions would the new Immigration Policy give me for Part Time Jobs (such as Work Contracts)?

4) What provisions would the new Immigration Policy give me, if I would like to establish my own small Consultancy Firm (with Office in Hong Kong)?

5) What provisions would the new Immigration Policy give me, if I would like to establish my own small Consultancy Firm (with Office in China)?

6) What provisions would the new Immigration Policy give me for if I would like to establish my own small Consultancy Firm (registered in Germany) with business activities in Hong Kong?

I'd be very glad, if I could avail some more detailed information or expereiences about similar questions.

Our decision to go to HK depends on that question.

Thank you for your kind information

Hmmm.. Intresting questions!!! I think, much of information regarding new policy is not available (or not adequetly released) to public and therefore the best place to ask your questions should be enquiry@immd.gov.hk...

Depends on the residency. If you wife can manage a permanent residency, then you're allowed to work as a dependant. If not, you will haave to look at setting up your own business with a proper business plan which will be examined by the Immd.

You could also go down the route of establishing a branch office in Hong Kong (again with a business plan which shows that you will employ local staff etc). Would recommend you drop the folks at InvestHK a line to look at what would be needed, as a German Company to setup a branch office in Hong Kong.

I've found InvestHK to be pretty helpful.
