Whilst I agree with you about the in-your-face rudeness of line jumping that goes on in Hong Kong I should point out that Hongkongers are by no means unique. Australians do this too - regularly. It's been a long time since I lived in the UK and maybe the disease has spread there too.

actually when it happened to me (all the time) in Beijing I found it deliciously unique...never have I had people line jump in a supermarket or McDonalds or a train station so blatantly in my life...love it!

Maybe they are expats who lived in Hong Kong for a decade or more, who have returned to their homelands lol.

I actually rushed a lift the other day, before the occupants got out ! I was in a hurry, and realised after I did it, and thought, stone the crow's, i've begun to act like a local... hahahahahha

Yeah I've been known to go for the close door button to shave 2 seconds off my lift travelling time!

Hahahahaaa i do that a lot, as you hear their foot steps scamper toward the lift, just as it closes, deliberately as I kept pressing the door close button .... Too late mah

Very much worthy of a scene from a Black Adder skit.
