Skyhook - those views you have are phenomenal! Oh I guess I wasn't clear...the budget we have been given from work isn't the same as what we get here - apparently they think Tokyo is the more expensive city...not! Anyhoo, our budget is $21K for Hong Kong - a far cry from the $30 that I thought it was going to be, lucky for us coming from Tokyo we are used to small spaces...

BUT hubby was really happy with what he saw in that price range in DB. He was mortified by the apartments he saw in that price range on the Island, he said there was no way he would let our kids live in anything he saw - whereas even an apartment he saw for $17K in DB he thought was good...big difference...he also really liked the environment for the kids in DB as opposed to the Island and was happy with how quick commuting to wan chai was.

so i think it will all work out even though we won't be able to afford a bigger place but i will be bargaining my butt off to try and get us something that we will enjoy! I just have to remember that first class and economy passengers all get there at the same time I like the idea of the smallish community too and am happy that i can utilise Tung Chung as well so I am still excited about the move.

I think how it works in Discovery bay, the further you are from the plaza, the cheaper the rents are. there should be some 3 bedroom apartments near where the tall ship is located for between 12,000 ~ 25,000 per month depending on the age of the building and its standard of interior design. Another good idea, is to make friends with your top floor neighbours, if you cant get access to a roof top of your own, maybe you could get permission to work out a deal with a neighbour...

I had a feeling that Discovery bay would be the best fit for you. Especially considering that you have kids, the area has a lot of activities geard toward children, making it a lot more fun for them, than being couped up inside during non school hours.

If you love walking around and exploring on the weekends, there's plenty of bush walks, water falls, a beach and out doorsy stuff you can enjoy there.

Good to see that this forum has once again, provided helpful info.

Welcome to Hong Kong Mumto2 and co

depends on the kind of delivery. most things can be delivered most days, but because of the location, some companies try to group their deliveries there on the same day so they can save money.

you do pay a premium to have things delivered to db, but that is because the tunnel/bridge tolls are so high.

you will find that the best thing about living in db is that it is a monopoly. that is also the worst thing about living in db.

thanks carang...that's great. i thought i had read that DB didn't allow cargo deliveries except for one day a week...glad i got that wrong - that would be a bit harder for companies.

As Cara said, it belongs to the business/shop when they deliver. The only restriction is that after 6pm they won't let delivery vans get in anymore. I know that since I tried to arrange a late-ish evening delivery with B&Q.
