I doubt it could be a moderator from another forum unless they sent you something which you downloaded and installed into your p.c.

The P.C hanging when it reaches a certain temperature could easily be due to a faulty or dirty fan which is more likely to be the cause as opposed to a virus.

If your husband is worried about information being downloaded from his p.c then he should stop going online ASAP and get it checked out NOW!

Have either of you got an up to date virus scanner and also a firewall? If not then do so as soon as you can.

Thanks, jimbo and seamale,

I'll try these sites. Both of our computers have up to date spybot and anti-virus (mcafee), but not firewalls. But I've heard firewalls will cause problems in accessing some sites. What is funny is I don't get pop-up windows but he does. Could it be virus from the sites he downloaded things from, some China sites which according to him are full of viruses?

Zonealarm is free and you do need to set it up initially but it doesn't take long to do, Heres a basic rundown of how it works and how to set it up etc.

http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conten...n&lid=zasupp_g

I use it myself and it works just great, The basic free version is more than adequate for your needs. It shouldn't cause you any problems in accessing some sites, If for example you go to a 'dodgy' website and its trying to dial out to send information to the server then zone alarm will tell you and ask you whether you wish to allow it or not, You can then tell the firewall you wish to decline it as a one off or permenantly block it.

Oh and also which web browser are you using? If you're using internet explorer then you're more at risk of getting dodgy pop ups etc.

Try using Mozilla Firefox, Looks virtually the same but its more stable than I.E.

Thanks, jimbo. I gave all the links to my husband and let him decide. He said his computer has firewalls but they aren't 100% safe. He said he had zonealarm a few years ago but not using it now. But I'll install one with mine. My computer has windows firewalls, basically. The problem is, he didn't study computer and learns by himself. I went to a French website last year downloading a song which jeopardized my computer, but that problem has been fixed, whereas the search function in my windows reamains disabled.

I'm using IE explorer. I've heard people talking about firewalls problems with Firefox.

Thanks again, jimbo and seamale.

Jimbo,

According to my husband, zone alarm is good but not the best. He likes using those downloaded by the most people as seen in the download list.

I've been using ZoneAlarm for several years now with no problems. It's very customizable as to how secure you want your connection to be and how much notification you want. I've also had zero problem with ZoneAlarm and Mozilla. The most trouble I've had was with WoW and even that was more of a minor annoyance than anything else.

As for antivirus, there's really no reason why you should be paying for AV software (Mcaffee, Norton/Symantec), when there are plenty of good free antivirus tools (AVG, ClamAV). Personally, I use ClamAV, ZoneAlarm, Spybot, and AdAware. All four tools are free and combined, they make your computer pretty secure.

I have a problem with spies and viruses. My computer seems OK except with the weather, when its around 20 C or above the computer hangs, because of overheating of the CPU, over 55 C, but my husband blames it on viruses.
This really doesn't seem like a virus issue. Have you checked to see if your fans are all running?
