Time it takes to get an apartment in Hong Kong

Hi,

I'm planning on moving to HK in august, am I realistic if i book an hotel for 5 days during which i would get an apartment ? is 5 days enough to get all the paperwork etc. done ?

How much does it limit my choice that I need the apartment to be furnished and I will not be staying in HK for more than 9 months.

thx

Depends on the market and what is available when you are looking. Plus, budget and standard of living.

If you're not in Hong Kong for more than 9 months and your budget allows you may consider staying in a service apartment or semi-serviced apartment.

my budget is 13000HKD/month and preferably location would be somewhere in kowloon with fast transport to CUHK.

I am unfamiliar with how serviced apartments work, can i book one in advance and move in right away when i arrive ?

I am not sure what service apartments are near CUHK ... ideally you can come right from the airport to a service apartment.

I know these are all in Southern Kowloon Peninsula and may suit your budget:

telephone 25151331 - Jordan Rd ... requires a 6 month minimum lease and I believe is furnished, I cannot recall the name but have given you the number.

Excellent Court
The Lodge
Sharma TST
New World Hotel / Service Apartments
The Pennacle Apartment
Harborview Horizon in Hung Hum

All of the above are a bus ride / MTR ride from CUHK by at least 30 minutes or more.
Also you will becoming in August when a slew of people are looking for apartments so this may work for you or against you.

With a budget of HK13000/month you should most definitely be able to get a nice modest flat unfurnished up towards Fo Tan, Tai Wai, Tai Po, Shatin and can have some cash left over to just go to IKEA or Price Rite and get some furniture for low value.

Some other alternatives is a flat share situation I would advise staying clear of a sublet.

the Horizon Suite HOtel in Ma On Shan is perfect for u. It's a serviced apartment and you can take a bus over the bridge directly to CUHK (we stayed there a month before finding a place). They have an amazing pool too! Welcome to the Horizon Suite Hotel

Seems nice. Can I reserve an apartment from there months in advance so that it will for sure be available when i arrive ? Or is it depending on if they have any free rooms when i arrive and walk in to the place and ask for rooms ?

Hopefully you i was clear enough in what I am trying to ask.
