HK Dependant Visa Dear All, here is the scenario. I am married to a HK lady, we are having our first child soon. I want to apply for a dependants visa as I qualify because She is a Hong Kong born HK Permanent ID card holder. When I fill in all the forms we have to prove that I am her dependant i.e. details of her job, bank accounts, property - all of which she does not have as I am the breadwinner and she is a housewife. I mean she is my Wife - dependant on me and not the other way around. Will I still get a dependants visa? Steve

The problem is that your wife has to sponsor your dependancy visa and sponsor means to support the dependant. If you can convince the immigration dept that you will have enough funds to support the whole family until you find another source of income then you might get the visa. When we moved to HK, my wife (a HK Perm. resident) didn't have a job but I had already secured a job and had signed contracts before our arrival. Plus my father-in-law had declared that he would take care of both of us until we settle down. Anyway, different people different cases

I have a good job and a salary and allowances that total abut $100,000 a month - will this be enough to convince them?

Hmmm... Confused!! You already have a job in HK. Which means you already hold valid employment visa. So, first question is how long you have been in HK? Second, whats the purpose of change of status from employment to dependant? Job Insecurity or contract renewel issues after two years!!!!

No - I just want the benefit of not having to renew every two years - it's a pain. Also makes it easier to change jobs. Been in HK since 17th Jan 2003 and I have a work visa until November 2006

For your information, you will still need to renew it every couple of years even when you hold dependancy visa. I've been here for 4 years and renewed it twice :>

Well in that case, going for dependant is a good option. However, be aware what they say on second floor information counter is not always what they do on six floor. Dont be simply misguided by their diplomatic answers... In my opinion, your salary and financial standing, if any, should be more than enough.. However, in principal they can still reject your application, so better consult Immd Consultant...

dependant visa I am HK PR live in US and planning to move back to HK. But I do not have too much $$ in our account. But recently submitted a dependant visa for my wife. Do they have a standard of how much $$ I should have in my account? What should be a good number?
