English subtitles for Chinese TV programming?? (Digital tv) hi there, i thought i read somewhere that if you upgrade to digital TV you can get english subtitles on Chinese tv stations - is that true? I would love to be able to switch the chinese subtitle on TVB/ATV to English so that everyone in our home (english speakers) can watch chinese programming - is this actually available / possible? how about on NOW? thanks guys

I don't think much of the local Chinese content is subtitled in English. What I think you read is that you can turn off the Chinese subtitling on English content on terrestrial digital TV. On NOW I think it's only possible to do so on HDTV.

Anybody knows what NICAM is? I sometimes see announcements on tv saying something like, this program is available in English/Mandarin and Cantonese thru NICAM. Anybody used it before?

Nicam is a bilingual audio transmission, TV's and video recorders that can recieve it, can select between the 2 audio transmissions, allowing you to hear either the Cantonese or English soundtracks, individually. Its usually indentified as a Audio I/II button on your remote control or Audio A/B.
