Most British/Irish style pubs have Shepherd's Pie (or its close cousin Cottage Pie) on the menu. Try Dublin Jack, Bulldog's, Delaney's. There are many threads here already on vegetarian restaurants, so do a search. There are lots of Chinese vegetarian places around. The two "western-style" pure veggie places that I know of are "Life" beside the mid-levels escalator just below Staunton Street, and "The Bookworm Cafe" in Yung Shue Wan on Lamma Island.

Perhaps you could define what you think "Shepherd's Pie" is so we can tell you who serves exactly that. For example, my previous suggestion of Bulldog's serve something that they call "Shepherd's Pie" but it's actually made with beef, so that's what I would call "Cottage Pie".

O.K this is my understanding of what the differences are between a Shepherds Pie and a Cottage Pie. ![]() Traditionally a Shepherds Pie ONLY has lamb meat ( mince ) cooked in a gravy. A typical ingredients composition below. ![]() 500 grams / 1 lb of leftover roast lamb (or roast beef) 1 tablespoon of tomato sauce (ketchup) ½ to ¾ cup of leftover gravy or packet-mix gravy 1 tablespoon of freshly chopped parsley 3 to 4 large potatoes 1 tablespoon of butter salt and pepper ![]() 1 onion 1 carrot 1 tablespoon of oil 500 grams / 1 lb of beef mince 2 tablespoons of flour 1 tablespoon of tomato sauce (ketchup) ½ to 1 tablespoon of Worcester sauce (Lee & Perins) ½ cup of peas ½ cup of corn kernels (optional) 1 bouquet garni or a small bunch of herbs chopped finely and one whole bay leaf ¾ to 1 cup of beef stock 3 to 4 large potatoes 1 tablespoon of butter salt and pepper Both pies share the same mashed potato top baked layer, which is where some of the confusion lies. Although, if you like Shepherds pies, you would also like cottage pies too. Unless you are a vegetarian, then obviously a veggie non meat cottage pie would be in order. Hope that clarifies things a little, creamy.. Last edited by Skyhook; 21-06-2008 at 07:38 PM.

I have a pretty good feeling that, The Old China Hand in Wan Chai would have Shepherds pie on the menu board, but the last time I had one there was about 18 months ago, so who knows what's on their menu these days. When you order your shepherds pie, be sure to ask the waitress what meat is in the pie, if it is lamb, you will be in luck. If its beef, it will be a cottage pie, like PDLM explained earlier. They sometimes sell frozen shepherds pies in the expat centric super markets like; Great, TASTE and 360. Last edited by Skyhook; 21-06-2008 at 10:23 PM.

Well, I was just about to say that my friend raves about the shepherd's pie in Dublin Jack's but after reading the exact ingredients, I'm guessing it's a cottage pie in shephard's clothing!
