Vintage Guitars in Hong Kong?

Can anyone tell me if there is a vintage guitar store in Hong Kong. I've been to Tom Lee's which has a lot of new guitars but nothing old and sweet. Thanks. - up

Vintage Guitars in Hong Kong?

Unfortunately there isn't any in HK. Good news is you can check out <Freewebs.com/guitarasylum> on rare & collectible guitars. Content not filled yet but at least it's a start. Enjoy!

Hey mate, you ever tried guitarsofa?

???

They're in Jordan, close to the MTR but damn hard to locate because they're on the 14th floor of a building. They do trade-ins too, I gave in my Orange Crush 15 there. Decent selection.

Nelson Piano Co is another nice spot, though they aren't really vintagey... think more like Warwick or Fernandes. They're on Nelson Street in Mong Kok, which is pretty close to the KCR. They have a website too but I can't remember the URL off the top of my head.

Wish there was a store like that, but I haven't found one. Still, Tokyo is not far...

the closest I have seen to vintage in HK was a 1994 (yes, that's right only '1994') Manuel Rodriguez selling for about $160,000 in Tsang Fuk. Ridiculous price and I have no idea why, perhaps that was the year of his last handmade models before they starting churning out the factory built ones?

Anyway, if you find anywhere it would be nice to hear back.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like we're pretty spoiled in St. Paul, MN, US. It just seems odd that in a city of over 7 million people there isn't a place that has older guitars. I didn't even see a used guitar in Tom Lee's. Where do they go...? Thanks. - up

guitars are not that popular in hk than in japan, uk and us, as well as the fact that most kong konger don't appreicate second hand vintage goods, so therefore its a specialist market so therefore no second hand guitar shops, however, most used things are sold on yahoo auction hk ( not ebay, not very popular in hk)

???L ?j?M???G: - Yahoo! ????

( sadly no english is used on this site)

there is also used guitars, but no vintages,

I know a mate who has a 60's gibson flying v (even used by a member of a band of the verve), he took it in to tom lee in tst for maintence, they were shell shocked by it, but unfortunately, i don't think he will sell it, useless you offer him a silly amount.

maybe you have found a market niche that needs some exploitation? ;-)

I suspect answering that question would lead to a long discussion about the place of second hand goods in HK culture.

Tom Lee have a small but decent selection of upmarket electrics, but it is very unusual (for a guitar store in a big city) to not see some good second hand guitars in that mix. I was in Ishibashi in Shibuya a few weeks back and they had some breathtaking planks!

As for that classical, well a proper "Miguel" Rodriguez would fetch that sort of money.

It's probably still there (at that price it should be!!), next time I am in the area I will refresh my memory. Pretty sure it was Manuel though, hence the price shock.

Tom Lee in TST was selling the factory jobs - similar purfling, seriously heavy lacquer though.

Actually, you would be surprised. There is a massive guitar community (all types of guitar) in HK and it does make you wonder what happens to the old stuff - probably sold on Ebay to the UK/US at some astronomical shipping charge.
