There are about 17 public holidays in Germany, but it is up to each federal state how many of them they grant their residents.
Depending on where you live, you will get about 9 to 11 public holidays each year. The few states dominated by catholics give a max of 1-2 on top of that.

Thanks for the clarification (I've never lived there). So otherwise I guess Belgium at 13 days is the highest.

Watch out! You'll give yourself a hernia pushing an envelope that big!

I think (which means I am not positive so if you know better please speak up in a public way) I read where the US has the most public holidays, but you aren't allowed to take any of them off. Unless you are a government worker.
Made sense to me because Congress is constantly avoiding important topics in order to declare this day "National Dirty Underwear Day" and that day "National Clean Underwear Day" (thus pleasing both groups of lobbyists and maximizing political contributions).

BenderLives will become famous soon enough
US may have the most frivelous holidays...but actual "public holidays" or "Bank Holidays" where the standard person gets off from work are around 10 i believe.

besides your vacation days....and holidays...do you get any other days off (like for relatives or return visits)?
