| | | Please, please help can anybody please offer some help or advice? no matter how small it may seem to you-to me its a learning curve!
i want to be a tefl teacher in hong kong and i need to know EVERYTHING about it!
i do not have a university degree - is this absolutely neccessary? or can a proffessional qualification (Financial Planning Certificate) substitute this? would a (genuine) diploma from Australia be enough?
Can a TEFL certificate on its own be enough?
Also i would (attempt to) spend almost all my free time practising my true love - wing chun kung fu. who would people recommend in HK who happily accept foreigners (preferably non Ip Man lineage, only because all my experience presently IS Ip Man lineage)
what are the costs of living and can anybody recommend good websites for renting flats or for looking for tefl jobs?
any help whatsoever would be appreciated so greatly!
many, many thanks in advance

| | | I would hope that a Teacher of English would know HOW to SPELL - e.g "neccessary" & "proffessional" - and Capitalise words where appropriate. <wry smile>.
As an ex-Grammar School student from 50+ years ago - I find "bad English" a shock to my nervous system. | |

| | | Hi Dave,
check out the websites for Trinity and Cambridge Tefl/Tesol courses. I dont think you necessarily need a degree.
The newspaper here (South China Morning Post) posts jobs every Saturday - you can look them up online.
Keep searching for more info on jobs and flats - there are definitley some websites dedicated to placing tefl teachers but Im afraid I don't know the addresses.
Good luck! | |

dont know much about Tefl but i can offer some advice in looking for apatments, the internet would not be that good, but Midland reality is a good source to contact and have them look for an apartment to fit your budget and liking.
they hooked me up with my aparment and i was very satisfied with the service offered.

| | | I find that there are a wide range of teaching posts here. If you're prepared to earn a low salary (comparitively speaking) then you won't need much. The problem is trying to secure a visa. If you want to earn more, you'll need a good TEFL from an established and reputable organisation - and these aren't cheap - on top of experience.
