Question Work Visa Approved no HKID which immd channel

Hi all,

I finally had my visa approved last week after almost 2months in application. I am flying next month and wondered what happens when I arrive in HK. I will have the employment visa in my passport and i also hold a HKIA Frequent Traveller Card. Is there a HK Residents channel i can use and go to a counter or should I just use my HKIA card in the diplomatic channel.

Regards

ixodus

If you have been issued the visa and this is your first entry you go through the normal proceedure ( ask if you can use the HK resident desk ) and the officer will endorse by stamping, your visa certificate. You then need to go to Immg and apply for your HKID. They will take a nice picture and your thumb prints for the biometric card.

When that is issued you can then use the automatic gates.

The diplomatic channel is reserved only for those holding a diplomatic passport.

Thanks for your swift reply Boris, Basically i didn't know if there was a HK residents desk or they changed it all to automatic gates.

The last 4 years all my entries the officer directed me to use the diplo yellow channel with my HKIA card.

So I just use a HK resident desk? or would the queue for the HKIA holders be quicker usually?

I believe you should go to the manned residents' counter (not the Permanent Residents' one, which is different). There is very rarely a queue these days since pretty much every resident uses the auto gates (unless they have young kids).

You didn't mention you had a HKIA card but PDLM is correct.
You need to have the visa endorsed then go through the application procedure to get the HKID.
