I thought I read it in the scmp that an eye witness said as such, I could well be wrong.

Even taking into consideration the affects of 4 days (assuming it was that long) in the water - surely they must have known her well enough to identify her?

Maybe I am oversimplifying things but it just strikes me as odd.

Having seen many dead bodies including drowning victims in another career, it is not surprising that the person might not be identifiable to anyone.

From todays SCMP:

Quote:
Delivering the homily at Discovery Bay International School, Father Henry Cabral said he had worked for years among migrant workers.

"I have heard and seen the difficulties and the suffering of many migrants, especially how their fellow human beings treated them in a degrading and, I'm sorry to say this, dehumanising way.
I wonder what he could be referring to. Hmmmm.

It would be interesting to find out what suicide rates among helpers are in HK. I hear so many stories of helpers being treated badly by their employees... I don't know who some people can live with themselves.
I have had the indescribable pleasure of loads of helpers coming into our house for interviews over the last couple of weekends and some of the stories of how they are treated makes your skin crawl.
And these are helpers of western families too just in case anyone wants to take the high ground (though the most dehumanizing stories weren't....).

The government should be responsible for monitoring the working conditions of these poor girls and enforcing the rules. Sadly, that will never happen because they don't give a sh#t

I'm not surprised. 4 days in the water is a long time. I don't think a lot of people would be recognizable after that.

NO NO and NO again. Lets not turn HK into a clone of the US / UK / EU where everything is regulated, monitored and unionized.

Those countries abolished slavery a long time ago, maybe it's time HK (and Singapore, and Dubai etc) did the same.
Some things should be regulated. Minimum wage for example, number of worked hours a week etc....

Yeah, I guess you're right, but she was recognisable to someone - her aunt, right? Didn't they jet her over for the ID?

I would have thought (OK, I have a brain that oversimplifies a lot ) the extremely close proximity of living with someone in that way - for 12 years - would foster some sort of familiarity on a similar level as a family member would have.

My gut says they know more than they admit.
