| | | If you want our advice, you should be honest with us so we can help you. You called it a "trip", but we all know you did a visa run. How long have you been in HK? From your posting history you have been here a long time, at least from last May 2007 (if not farther). So consider yourself lucky to have lasted this long. It is quite clear that you have been working (freelance/consultant) all this time. HK immigration are not stupid, they know how many days you have been in HK.
Do not try to do another visa run to Shenzhen, that is really asking for trouble. Also, do not go to Wan Chai tower without an air ticket!!! This is your only chance, to say something like "look my flight is on May 1, please let me stay until then". If you tell them that you have an interview in 2 weeks, they will tell you "then leave now and come back then".

I worked here april 2006 to 2007. I step up my soleproprietorship a year ago. apply for a investment visa in october, get a negativ answer on end of march.
Start to look for a job since. Went to BGK last week end... spent too many days in HK on my tourist visa apparently.
sure they know everything...

How did you solve the problem ? | You have no good valid reason to come back to HK, As per chimo's comments you've been lucky so far but now you have to go home.
I had to go back home in the end and left it at that till I applied for residency about a year later which was granted, I didn't have the necessary paperwork back then but I did last year thus am fine now.

| | | Well you lasted 2 years on visa runs, not many people can last that long. I would just go back to your home country (you seem French?). Tickets to CDG aren't that expensive. Then, if you are serious about setting up your company, consider getting a professional to help you with it. And in the meantime, look for HK jobs back home. Good luck!
I lasted almost 3 years on visa runs, but I was lucky enough to have both a Canadian and UK passport, so I just kept on switching passports each time I entered. After my company was up for 3 years and hired some locals, I was successful in hiring myself as an employee.

| | (Showing my age a little) In the words of Ms Rice-Davies "we he would, wouldn't he?"
And there is something of a distinction between "being here for some other purpose and looking for a job", and "entering HK for the primary (or sole) purpose of finding a job".
