| stamp in passport when i have hkid/rtl? so how does the process work? i have a uk passport- i plan on getting a new hkid when i get there (i have a kid ROA one/parents have roa)- if i get the hkid, and then leave the country to come back to the USA will they stamp my passport with anything? the only reason i'm asking- i'm in the process of getting my us citizenship- and while i plan on travelling from now until my interview date- i also plan on getting my hkid updated/renewed. will there be a stamp on my passport when i leave hk? |

| This depends on whether the Immigration Officer is able to verify your RTL status when you arrive. If s/he can then I guess you will enter under that Right To Land and hence no stamp will be made in your passport. If he can't then I guess you will enter as a vistor, in which case a stamp will be made. In the latter case, when you go to ImmD to verify your RTL and get the new HKID card they will probably (and if they don't you should ask) put a "change of condition of stay" notice in your passport, cancelling the entry as a Visitor and noting your Right to Land. On exit you would then just use your HKID through the automatic machines and there would be no further mark in your passport. On subsequent entries and exits you'll just use your HKID through the machines. At least, that's how I think it would work. |
