Advice for a fresh grad?

Hi everyone!

I just moved back to hk as a fresh university grad from united states and am looking for a job/career in the finance field. The problem is I dont have any prior finance related work experience, and I know its past the recruiting period for most of the fresh grad programs/internships.

So any ideas as to what I can do?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

You could try head hunters/ job placement firms. Also try applying direct to firms for entry level analyst positions. Visit Finance jobs, investment banking jobs & recruitment: Finance jobs sector... go to the HK site there are some job openings there. Hope it helps. Alternative is to apply to boutique or MM IB's and AM companies to see if they have openings for analyst or internships.

My $0.02

Cheers

Contact Career Development Center/Office/Service at your former school in the USA see if they can connect you with an HR rep who handles fresh grad recruitments (most likely this person will be in the USA) but your goal is to get them to connect you to a contact in their Asia offices.

The Career Development Center/Office/Service have all the connections with the HR departments for various industry and sectors --- there connections are not only in the USA but worldwide.

Each of the major Finance firms and Banks have people who recruit direct from the collages and university for their jobs and special programs.

You may also consider a non paid internship just to get your foot in the door get some experience and the possibility to move into a position if a suitable opening comes available .... this is not an unheard of event.

May I enquirer what is your degree?

Thx alby! i'll definitely try your advice!

yea to be honest, i dont really care about the pay/salary at the moment, since i just want to get some experience; but i haven't seen any unpaid internships available

i have a double major in economics and psychology

i also have a related question about salary

i see alot of posts/reports about salary being 30-40k per month, then i see on jobsdb.com and other people mentioning fresh grads get about 10k a month? why the big difference? is the 10k per month during the training periods?

thx again you guys for the advice and answers!

nine out ten internships are not posted and something like six out ten companies never consider interns unless one who is interested approaches the company with a viable proposal for an internship. BASICALLY write your own and sell yourself to the company!

Think about how you can apply the theory and knowledge you have learned from the two and translate it into practical experience that is of use for a company --- think why should a company hire you with this educational background.

Industry, experience, type of company and how you sell yourself as a candidate.

thx again you guys for the advice and answers!

mid market (refers to the smaller banks). I honestly think your best bet is to cold call and write in to the firms direct. Sites like JobsDB only give a limited number of vacancies. By writing and contacting firms directly it shows your enthusiasm which is a plus point to firms.
