Question Families in Mid-levels?

We are moving to HK this summer and would like to live in the Mid-levels.

Are there a lot of families living in the Mid-levels. I have 5 kids ranging in age from 15 to 2.

Thanks.

Whoa, 5 kids! In answer to your question, there are families who live here in the Mid-Levels and there always have been as long as I've been alive.

But you will need quite a budget to get a place big enough for 7 people. How much do you have to spend on rent?

And condoms are readily available here.

Alby and Jay,

Thanks so much for your responses.

Alby, I'm looking for both some general and some specific information.

Generally, I'm wondering if there are a lot of families and/or stay-at-home parents in the Mid-levels. I just want to make sure we move into an area where we can find playmates for the kids and perhaps other stay-at-home parents.

Any other specifics would be great in terms of areas of the Mid-levels, buildings, proximity to parks, etc. DH and I will be visiting in advance to look at housing and schools and will be using dh's company's relocation personnel. However, I thought the folks on this board who live in the area would have good current knowledge and experience.

I really appreciate it.

P.S. - Thanks for the tip on GeoKids.

Just a very slight observation Jo, but, what are the chances of an Australian using mom in their id ?

Aussies still use the British version of the English dictionary, and would use mum, not mom.

I would have also thought that the mid levels wouldn't have all that many Aussie expat families with children, as opposed to family friendly area's like Discovery Bay, Clearwater Bay, Sai Kung, Hebe Haven, Tuen Muns Gold Coast and to some extent, Repulse bay, Shouson Hill, Tai Tam and Stanley.

Discovery Bay, Sai kung and the Gold Coast entertain the largest proportion of Aussie families that have children in the entire territory. If you plan on working in the central Hong Kong Island, Discovery Bay is going to provide you twice as much apartment space, located in much more enjoyable relaxed garden landscaped neighbourhood surroundings, with loads of opportunities for your children to mix with other kids from all over the world.

For reference you can visit the below websites to get an idea of the focus of the area's.

Hmm... the midlevels to me are characterised by really steep hills, bad traffic and a distinct lack of parks and playgrounds. The places that Skyhook mentions would be much friendlier to kids.
