AEG Dishwasher repair

Hello there,

I've googled my fingers blunt to try and locate an AEG representative in Hong Kong. We brought over a dishwasher which has been working fine but now seems to have developed an error.

I have even asked at Fortress, but they don't know who the agents are for AEG here - which makes me think they don't have.

Does anybody know of a repair service who could help figure out what is wrong with my machine?

Or know of an AEG agent?

- KG.

As a domestic engineer as part of another life, house appliances are incredibly simple things. The only thing that make them unfixable DIY is if there is a Micro Board problem and when solenoid valves malfunction as they are sealed items.

So what is your problem on the DW ? Maybe can offer a simple answer.

Things that can go wrong with a Dishwasher.
  • The water inlet valve can seize if the dishwasher is connected to water hotter than 50 degree's.
  • Sometimes a broken wine glass, remnants of which can make there way past the pea strainer located about the back third centre of the floor, which is where the drainage pump impeller is located, subsequently jamming it, and if water is in the sump, glass looks invisible to the eye when its submerged, you need to put your fingers in and have a feel around and see if anything is lodged.
  • If dishes are not pre rinsed prior to being stacked in the dishwasher as per the manufacturers spec, large food scraps can accumulate and block the drainage hose that connects to your sinks pea trap or whats called a tun dish.
  • If your Dishwasher sticks on one particular cycle and wont progress further, if its an electro-mechanical dial/programme timer, the timer is likely to be in need of replacement. If however the programme stops and the Dishwasher is a fully logic controlled push button electronic touch panel unit, and an "E" code comes up on the flouro display, you might be able to research the Error code online pertinent to your model dishwasher online, as there maybe an explanation out there as to what the fault code means, thus making it easier to locate the fault, and the area where the problem is.
  • If however your dishwasher is a fully electronic controlled unit, and the fault is due to a faulty main logic control board that has open circuited, that whole board which will be sitting behind the decor panel of the top section of the dishwasher door, it will cost approximately about $1200 - $2000HKD inc labour to replace.
  • Another fault that can happen is if the wrong rinse aid is used it can gum up the rinse aid dispenser, which wont function properly and leave glasses streaky, which will also happen if rinse aid is not used.

Anyway, like Boris has requested, what are the symptoms of the problem you are having ? It wont be difficult to narrow the problem down.

It's flashing an error message that I can't figure out as we have misplaced the manual in the move. It turns on and starts washing but no water is flowing into it (and checked the tap).

Might be nice if we had a model number and an error code, to search online with.

Also your user manual I highly doubt would list fault code explanations with a refer to technician scenario.

The first part of the dishwasher cycle the moment the door is snibbed, will be the drain pump will activate for about 20 seconds or so, then the inlet valve will open bringing fresh water until the float switch triggers at the desired floor depth. Then the spray arms will run off a recirc pump and disperse that water around the cabinet, for a few minutes, then the soap dispenser will trigger. etc etc etc.

Now if there is no water coming in and the floor of the diswasher is dry, the fault is either a faulty float level micro switch, a faulty inlet valve located underneath the machine and easy to replace if the machine is flipped upside down.

Or worst case scenario the board is screwed, depending on what the Error code relates to.

It could also be a kinked inlet hose, or a faulty flood safety switch, which is located in a small box which houses the brass tap fitting that you connect to your under bench tap, ( its a sealed unit and part of the inlet hose). If that has failed it will shut a valve right at the tap connection and an error code will be displayed.

" It's flashing an error message that I can't figure out as we have misplaced the manual in the move. It turns on and starts washing but no water is flowing into it (and checked the tap). "

A make and model number is essential to trace the fault BUT it sounds like one or two things .
1) Jammed Solenoid Water Inlet Valve
2) IF FITTED - a blocked inline coarse filter on the water inlet side. This will either be fitted inside the water supply pie ) a rubber washer with a metal or nylon mesh inside )

If you live in an apartment block the regular maintenance flushing of the water main dislodges particles in the iron pipes. If the dishwasher is used during this flushing the particles can transit and block this filter. Its the first place I would check.

FYI - this is also true in clothes washing machines.

Thanks

Thank you both for your help, Skyhook and Boris.

It's an AEG "Favorit" 50830 Sensorlogic

The error is more like a horizontal flashing indicator.

I did try cleaning the filter in the floor before. I have now done that again and also checked the other valve on the floor marked 'salt'. Both these wells have water dammed up in them and we haven't used it in days.

No worries Kiffguy,

also, when you say there is water dammed up in the bottom of the machine, in theory if the dishwasher is operating normally, that sump water should have drained out first.

Now, if the drain hose is blocked or if the drain pump impeller blades are jammed by a chicken bone, or a past broken glass or something thats worked its way in there, that will stop the machine from introducing fresh water into the machine.

Under the main sump pea strainer which will have a cup sized filter/strainer, remove that and then you will see that the is a perforated stainless steel floor strain panel that can also be lifted up and removed from the machine. once thats clear you will see the entry of the drain pump with a plastic fan shaped ( impeller ) item, that should free wheel. if its hitting something or jammed, remove the foreign item. If the drain hose is blocked at the base of the exit at the rear spiggot, of the dishwasher exterior cabinet, that will also cause the machine to not trigger the inlet because the sump is still filled with water, prior to introducing fresh water.

Obviously you'll have the top and bottom plate racks ( carriages ) removed before you do this.

Most likely cause of the problem you're facing are:

A/ The drain hose is blocked and needs to be removed and cleaned most likely at the base where it connects to the spiggot on the washer cabinet.

B/ The drain pump impeller is jammed by a foreign object and needs to be cleared.

Manual for this DW
1) With a product number 91123254800
http://www.electrolux-ui.com:8080/20...5C960591EN.pdf

It gives the error message codes.

FYI - there is an alternate manual listed in English but this one has a later published date.

I notice these where published in 2003 so how old is the machine?
