I need to get a couple of packages with the following dimensions / weight shipped to me from Miami to Hong Kong (door to door service).

36"x24"x12" - 80lbs

FedEx International Economy comes out at US$450.

Any suggestions on cheaper (and secure) options?

Those are big boxes. I think one of your problems may be the weight - once it goes over 30kg per package it requires mechanical rather than manual handling which adds to the cost significantly.
