pro china rally

There's going to be a pro-china silent rally in front of BBC London Headquarters in 2 weeks, in protest of the current uproar about tibet in the west. Does anybody know if there are similar pro-china rallies in hong kong?

The Democratic Alliance for the Advancement of Blah-Blah (as Hemlock calls them) have rallies quite frequently I believe, although obviously they are conducted entirely in Chinese.

What is the essence of the protest you wish to make?

Would be be regarding the Western media distortion of China and Tibet? I am quite pro-China on this also much to the dismay of many of my friends in Australia. Ah - a complicated issue.

Certainly is a complicated issue. How much do you actually know about the history of Tibet and the bloody invasion, followed by the brutality of the rule, the purge of the religion and the destruction of a culture, not to mention the starvation? Anything?

I am sorry, but right now, with the visa situation (forget Tibet..) China is certainly not going to get many sympathy votes from the expat community who really do business and "support" china.

jaykay,

You're referring to the Mongols doing that to Tibet in the 13th century? Or the Tibetans doing it to large parts of China in the 7th Century? Or the Nepalese doing it to Tibet in the 18th Century? Or the British in the early 20th Century?

Wikipedia has some good articles on this whole issue.
Tibetan sovereignty debate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for example.

Interestingly, I've just been dinged a red reputation by someone who claims that Wikipedia is not a credible source. Presumably this is by someone who hasn't even read the articles since pretty much every one is carefully balanced, explaining in detail the view of both sides in the debate.

I'd be very interested to hear from whoever dinged me as to what they do regard as a credible source so that I may compare what it has to say.

PDLM,

I of course should have been more specific and was referring to events after 1959. However you are right that Tibet has had an extremely colourful history over several hundreds of years.

Actually I took a look at Wiki myself and think that it's a pretty balanced article and compares well to other articles and books I have read which broach the subject. The usual ding merchants at work I think.

For once I can see your point. As an Australian, if you adopt the Tibetan view on these matters then you should, presumably, be booking your passage back to wherever it was your family came from so that the aborigines can have back what is theirs.

Or perhaps all that is necessary is for China formally to say "sorry" and then carry on as before?

Yes, carried to the logical extreme we Westerners abandon HK, Aussie, NZ, North and South America, etc... and all head back to Europe.
It is a rather self-centered line that is drawn. All territory grabs before (fill in the year to exempt your personal favorite countries) are okay. But not after. I pick 1940, except if US national interests are at stake.
And those red blockers are annoying sometimes. Why don't they just argue their point rather than sneaking around dropping bombs and running?
