Discovery Bay vs Mid-Levels

Hi,

I'm a single woman who just arrived in HK a couple of days ago and have been put up in temp accommodation by my company. Now I need to find something permanent and am not sure where to look.
It's been suggested I should be looking at mid-levels or Discovery Bay. Haven't seen either but will be going to DB tomorrow.
I am told that DB is really far more pleasant than Mid Levels and it sounds lovely with the beach and all that but I don't like the thought of being removed from the center of things and having to take a ferry back and forth, particularly after a late night out! Also, I get the impression DB is predominantly families and kids rather than singles. Not a problem but think I'd rather have other singles about.
Would be interested to hear opinions about the pluses and minuses of two.

Thanks very much.

I live in Midlevels and I like it's central location. If you're single and want the opportunity to meet people like yourself, Midlevels seems a better option than DB. From what I understand, DB residents are mostly families - lots of kids and pregnant women hanging around there. It is nice - nice beach, golf carts (no cars), but I think you would feel isolated there if you're single.

DB isn't really Hong Kong, and it really isn't the place to live if you are single and expect to have a social live. Go for the mid-levels.

Thanks very much.

That was exactly the impression I got... that I'd feel isolated and it wouldn't be as easy to have much of a social life.

Too bad though... it does sound nice.

Anyway, am going along to check it out tomorrow but think I will probably lean towards mid-levels.

Midlevels Vs Discovery Bay

I will be moving to HK in a few weeks time. My husband will be working in Central. I am contemplating between Midlevels and Discovery bay. Having lived in Tokyo I feel Discovery bay would be a change with lot of greenery and beach. But for shopping, dinning and proximity to work Midlevel would be better.

Young professional people would do better in mid-levels, as Dbay is mostly for families with young children and older retired people. No active night life, and no chance for socializing except in the plaza area. Most people here spend all their free time at home. After ferrying an hour each day, you only want to go home and relax. Go to Mid-Levels if you want to play.
