I'd just like to say thanks to all you guys that put up this post and kept talking about it, because, frankly, if I hadn't been browsing this site, I would never would have been informed of this collapse of Oasis (they didn't e-mail any people that have already purchased their tickets yet, still). And if I didn't know, I probably would've kept on thinking my flight was okay and might have ended up screwed in May once I checked my flight status week before my flight. So thanks again all.

adding my thanks!

ditto to the previous message. i was floundering around in the wee hours trying to catch up on information when i came across this forum--learned more from it than anywhere, and was worried as our tickets for july were purchased from Canada. The good news is that Visa in Canada is aware of the situation and has promised a refund upon presentation of itinerary. so there is hope that if we can't get back there in time for a major family event, at least the airfares may be recovered. Any ideas about flights into Vancouver?

Yes its true. I am a travel agent and felt a little shock yesterday when I found out that they went bankrupt. I just sold 1 ticket for a client on business from Vancouver and immediately told him to dispute the charge.

The fuel surcharge is really hitting the airlines's industry.

I am currently in NY for the month of April and two US carriers had also ceased their operations, Aloha Airlines and American Trans Air.

There are so much going on these days when 1 airlines is growing so well and will annouce a new route with the shower inside the plane and everybody is refurbishing their business and first class cabins but on the other hand, the others had collapsed yet after 62 years.

Can't wait for Asian Carriers to announce their all business class cabins soon like what they have now between US and Europe.

Oasis

I went to a luncheon hosted by the HK Chanber with the Oasis team giving a presentation.

At the end of the presentation during the Q & A session, I asked when they expected ROI. After a lot of deflections to the question, one Oasis executive said they hoped to break even after a year! This did not answer my question and from the numbers given in the presentation, no way could this be achieved.

Secondly, another member of the audience asked where they would consider opening up another route. Mrs. Lee (founders wife) replied "where we can make friends"

Based on the above, would you invest in them?

I think not.

Oz Westpac won't pay

Just got a definite no from Westpac in Australia.
The complimentary travel insurance on my Earth + card is valid only for tickets bought in Australia, leaving from Australia.

I'm disputing it, but I'm sure it won't change.

excellent

I found Oasis to be excellent on my trip to London. The times were good, Gatwick is far better than Heathrow, I had no wait for check-in, the food was
OK, and we were early coming back. This contrasts with Cathay Pacific where I had a large screw in my meal and a noise from under the plane on taxiing that I found really unnerveing.
I was on Freddie Laker's Skytrain years ago and we know what happened to him. If you read about Viva Macau's difficulties dealing with the administration in the region, you may wonder about Oasis too. I really cant see that the teething probles they had were any big deal. Look at their 'on time' record.

Why in the world would you revive an old thread to post a review of a bankrupt airline???

well, just sent a mail to the bank mentioning about my situation. but dun really have faith on that...

the chance of getting my $ back would be minimal...

Besides, those special discounts offerd by other airlines only valid till the end of April /May. (The CX hotline will close soon!) How about those that will leave in the summer??? Any resuce plans? (Unfortunately, I am one of the customers who were planning to fly in the summer...)

Chantal.
