| looking on the upside - your folks will be the "lucky" ones who can say that they flew on the last flight of oasis i wonder what arrangements oasis has made for this situation. |

Travelling on the Tube (which always appears claustrophobic and very quiet and extortionately expensive after the MTR) lugging a couple of suitcases down long corridors between platforms is the worst bit of the journey for me. However, enduring chaos at LHR is a close second. Thank God for HK! |

luckily my folks should be covered by UK consumer protection laws as they paid by credit card (i.e. should get a refund). as for getting them back to the uk (and trust me, they are not staying with me any more longer than their intended stay) the two options are that other airlines will endorse the Oasis ticket or that their travel insurance will pick up the tab of a one way ticket with cx, ba, etc. |

| If you look at dates BEFORE June 24 and AFTER September 8 or so, you'll find fares in the $4880 price range (4480 if you return within 30 days) |

| Airbus industries by not delivering Singapore airline's A380's with delay after delay could be viewed as one of the contributing factors that created OASIS's demise. OASIS, not being able to procure used 747-400's from Singapore airlines fleet, due to the many delays of their replacement A380 fleet. By not being able to get access to well maintained used long haul aircraft, being unable to expand quick enough to meet customer demand, is one of the main reasons they predictably hit the wall. They speculated badly, paid a gamble on buying 5 or 6 of Singapore airlines B747- 400's, but due to the A380's being continually delayed delivery, OASIS never got their extra aircraft when they were expecting them. Add the price or crude oil that has gone up by 20% in the last 16 months, and a couple of stuff ups here and there, and it was no surprize that OASIS was facing difficult times. Hainan Airlines are looking at taking OASIS over I hear, which won't impress the crew much as pay scales will be predictably lower than what OASIS were paying, probably around what China Airlines are paying. Quiet a lot less, that being the case. I'm not the least bit surprized and have won a pretty decent bet that OSIS wouldnt last 2 years, because I had half expected CX to squash them out of the market, but it seems CX actually played fairly, other outside elements contributing to their failure. For all intensive purposes, OASIS had very good management, head hunted specially from various airlines, including Qantas, so it was just a set of factors that couldnt have been envisaged. A bit of bad luck. Last edited by Skyhook; 09-04-2008 at 04:08 PM. |

| Skyhook - but then you also got to wonder .... HK$ 1 million loss per flight. Even with a projected loss making scenario for 2-3 years, you have to wonder what factors contributed to that sort of loss. Were those losses related to operational costs of the flight (Fuel / staff / landing fees / insurance .. whatever) or just dodgy accounting? Ok, and they just got $30 million from Value Partners, a HK Venture capital group in October / November. So you figure they were already dying a few months ago ... Guess there will be a call for extra donations at one little church in HK.

| I would imagine their inability to source a 747-400 to be a bit far fetched for their ( possible, imminent ) failure. Just a simple search shows many and lots of good spec items in the lease pool. Its not as if the choice would be between a 340 or 747. I am sure there are suitable items in the pool that would overcomer pilot cert issues especially considering airlines are replacing the 400 with the 400ER. All that makes the Singers suitable is their internal outfitting. An ex Emirates would be just as suitable. For the fuel issues I am sure that is the major if not the majority feature of any ( possible, imminent ) failure. |

| So who wants to get a nicely used 747? KIA, lets get one, we can pimp it up and have a private Geo Expat charter? What do you think? |
