Those were the ATI Radeon 9600s.

The Nvidia GeForce 9600 performs almost exactly equal with the GeForce 8800, costs about 30% less, uses about 30% less power and produces much much less noise and heat. It'll run absolutely every game on the market today at max, with the possible exception of Crysis, but it'll handle that well too.

I still think that's funny that crysis has been out how long and computers still struggle to run it.

If the 800MHz Kingston that I have seen doesn't specify the CAS latency then what would you expect it to be?

it struggles to run it when it uses directx10 from what i've seen. directx9 seems ok on my end.

This may be a subjective question but would you choose the faster 1066MHz of unspecified CL or the 800MHz at CL4?

depends really on what you're going to be doing with the machine (if it's going to be ram intensive or not - virtualization, games, etc). the 1066Mhz would most likely be a CL4 as well.

If i were in your shoes just get the 1066 (just be sure the mobo supports it - whatever mobo you choose to get). it's only 10 bucks more anyway.

wow gentlemen... I haven't looked at PC specs since I saw, fell in love with and impulse bought my iBook 7 years ago.
The hardy little machine is still going strong, but the poor thing is a little slow these days and with my G5 breaking down, limited funds and a video job to pull off, I'm looking at moving back to PCs.
Quite frankly this whole thread scares me- I didn't know what a dual-core was until a trip to Sham Shui Po earlier this week, so anyone care to drop some advice?
I need a system required to run Adobe Premier at a good lick and also handle 2D Gb-sized image files.. no games really (apart from poker & freecell...). Obviously when I ask in various computer marts I get shown top spec... comments on the following specs welcome!
