Gmail being throttled, blocked by some anti-spam vendors

Here, for you Gmail ass lickers. Slow mail for you.

Gmail being throttled, blocked by some anti-spam vendors

On our anti-spam system they are also the number #1 this week for real servers which are spewing spam. Yahoo is also having fun with Russians using them all over the world to send spam through.

Yahoo is also turning into a complete pain in the arse to deliver mail to.

We're at the point where we might just block Yahoo addresses from Geoexpat

KIA, apart from having credit card blues, running a site that is running a registration system is also a massive problem. News letters? Then you have the fun issues of email address churn rate (at least we don't have that one).

On our new up coming free hk.com email we are not even counting on being able to deliver anything to users via email to activate an account.

We are stopping our forwarding service to hotmail and yahoo and refusing to accept those emails on the sign up process for password recovery or renewals.

Second life also does not accept the big providers also for their signup process due to their anti-spam systems.

As a site owner we have two choices.

1. You allow the two biggest providers, to be used by your users and then when you have to deliver anything to the users it goes to junk or it gets deleted outright. Then your users believe your service and company suck.

2. You don't allow them and you force users to use their work address or ISP address.

Not an easy choice to make.

Me being as cynical as always, I think the big mail service providers are doing this to retain their market share. If people can't sign up to other services they retain market share.

Anyway I am glad that reality is catching up Gmail and those that put the service in a pedestal.

In summary:
Hotmail = mail loss, can't get email into them, deleted. Not much spam
Yahoo = can't deliver to them, massive source of spam
Gmail = Huge source of spam.

As I said iin the other email blocking thread there are problems with Google mail paid service here in Hong Kong. I am chasing 2 companies for them to switch to us.

There is also a big increase in spam originating from Google.

Sending emails from their webmail or using their SMTP server?

Don't see a reason why they would be blocking your connection - unless they've implemented some new controls which throttle the emails you send. Would have thought they were sophisticated enough to handle...

But HK.Com is right, there is an increase in the amount of spam originating from gmail's servers.

The pedestal is for their interface and spam removal though. All ESP's are going to pass on a lot of spam, that's a given as the Turing tests can always be overcome.

If anything I hope this encourages ADSP/SSP development faster, as this just highlights inherent human flaws in the current technology.

Personally I don't have any problems (so far?) with Google Apps Email. Fast, reliable and very good in catching of spam.

Spam is huge problem on hotmail for me, although lately one or two a day seem to pass through with Google these days.

.
...using smtp... the webmail works ok. Although I hate their interface and way of presenting mail.

It has been blocking sporadically for about 2 months now.

I have my own domain but I try not to use it anywhere that I might get onto some list or other and mercifully it has stayed spam free.

I used Bigfoot for a long time before that became a spammers hideout, looks like it may be time to move on from Google.

Now where did I put these GMX credentials...

gmx is a bitch to login to though, interface sux big time and totally inaccesible via mobile. I agree way too much spam on hotmail - I'm even getting it on MSN as well which is extremely irritating.
yahoo isn't too bad actually - not had any spam yet and so far get all my emails from here and others, so I can't complain about it at all.
