Yeah - we don't say, 'nei sik jor faan mai aa' (have you eaten yet) in Australia, they say 'did ya get pissed on tha weekend maate~

Ah - so uncivilized (in my opinion which I am entitled to )

But yes, I am an Australia citizen and am open to new friends

I am Australian, not Chinese Australian though. I am originally from Melbourne and grew up in a rain forest in the middle of a mountain range (very different to Hong Kong) in the Dandenong Ranges about an hour or so east of Melbourne. Quite beautiful scenery - but I feel at home in Hong Kong.

Interesting, what makes you feel at home in HK, it's sth I hardly can feel, and may need some inspiration

Dandenong, very beautiful, I've been there few times when I was living in Melbourn. I miss those colorful parrots in the Dandenong mountain.

I think it is quite deep psychology. If you look up previous forum topics about "Reverse Culture Shock" (or search for the subject on Google, there is much written about it) this probably wont help you adjust to the culture but help understand yourself and why you don't appreciate your home, how returning it all seems so strange and foreign to you (much the same as Australia does to me now).

Who can understand it? It takes me a month at best to feel semi re-adjusted to Australia but landing in Hong Kong I AM at home, why? I don't know *haha*. And yes, Australia is a geographically beautiful Country, especially where I grew up. Message me privately if you want to know my personal feelings, proud Aussie's get offended and take away my green dots telling me I am an offense to my flag.

Good idea. Many people do a language exchange - good way to meet friends who speak a language you want to learn.

G'day Ameli,

For anyone who is interested in continuing their relationship with Australia and it's xpats working professionally in Hong Kong, it might be prudent to join the Australian Association of Hong Kong.

More details here on Australian Association of Hong Kong The association has been running in Hong Kong since 1954. It's a great way to keep in touch with a large cross section of Aussies making their professional career mark in Hongkers, especially during the monthly sundowners for a casual drink and a bite to eat.

The Australian Consulate and AUSTCHAM run a charity black tie ball every once in awhile too, so its worth becoming a member, so you can receive the whats on monthly magazine.

Hope that helps the fellow Aussies out there, and their fans. I'm an ex-inner city bayside Melbournian btw, living out in the far reaches of the New Territories, overlooking Castle Peak Bay, and loving it..

Cheers big ears

Aussies don't drink Fosters Prix, but i'll list a couple of beer brands that you can buy in HK, which you can try out, which are popular in Australia. Fosters is the least popular brand, btw
  • Cascade ( in my opinion equal with Boags )
  • James Boags ( the two best beers JB and Cascade )
  • Crown Larger not bad, if you like Fosters, you'll like this one.

The only thing is, I am not really a beer drinker, my lopor and I are very much into red wines, having travelled extensively globally, very big fans of France, where we have family, and Italy.

We live by this mantra " La Belle Vie " in French or whats better known in Italian, " La Dolce Vita", aka in English: The Beautiful Life
