Processing was extremely slow this morning and as a result big queues. And in answer to a question way back in this thread a British guy did go through ok with his new passport with visa in the old one. | They started doing in this on Monday, but it has been random all week. Sorry, I put it in a separate post....

I have a multi "L" with HKID. Went into Shenzhen and back last Saturday. The entry to Lo Wu was as usual (and there were hardly any foreigners in the queue). Coming back, likewise, except that the immigration person on the China side scrutinized my passport for several minutes. I was tempted to push the "dissatisfied" or "unhappy" button on their little rating machine but I know what would have happened then ...
Anyway I think it's unrealistic to expect any improvements until after the Olympics. Miracles can happen but that's why we call them miracles.

| | | I was sent back this morning from Wanchai Ambassy with empty hand even though I am chinese-canadian holding valid HKID and have a family in Shenzhen.
I was told to present a return ticket from SZ to HK to process the application.

| | | An interesting development... As I posted earlier, my niece was granted a 1yr multi-entry (L) visa about 3 weeks ago at the China embassy in Chicago, US. Yesterday, her friend who is also coming out with her, went to apply for her visa (listed all same information as my niece). However, the application was not taken as she couldn't produce hotel confirmation (which was obviously not a requirement just a few weeks ago). She was told that if I send her a letter of invitation, confirming that she will be staying in Hong Kong and only go for day trips to Shenzhen, then the application can be submitted.... HUH??? Seriously, who comes up with this stuff????
So I am going to go and have some kind of an official looking stamp made so that I can put it on my letter....and make it look formal.
