yes the editorial is by James Tien - he is the owner of G2000 - its quite good + still very polite. I have received many comments on my blog which I needed to delete - because they were NOT polite anymore - and full of anger + aggression because of this policies.
Many people's livelihood really depends on an easy and "undisturbed" access to the main-land.
That there are quite a few foreigners who doing illegal + unregistered business on the mainland is also clear. They should hear the alarm bell ringing now and either leave or obey the law and register + pay tax in China. It is absolutely okay that China want to clean this people out.
I just wanted to confirm that Americans that are here on education or business or tourist visas and don't have HKID since they will be here for less than 6 months must apply for the visa in the USA? I suppose I should go down to the visa office and ask, maybe try to sweet talk. It's no huge deal as I'll happily visit a number of other places but I wanted to revisit Beijing. Ah well, my limited knowledge of mandarin is based on traditional characters anyway so maybe I should check out Taiwan. I'm sure I could go through an american visa service or just send my passport back, or maybe hunt for a visa service here in HK......not sure I really want to go through all that though with so many cheap flights from HKG and Macau to so many places I've never been.

was just informed by a friend who got approved for the HKSAR passport that he will not get the China visit card as they have stopped that also for new HKSAR passport unless u are of Chinese origin
Can anyone advise please if an unused visa is still valid in a renewed passport. I am a British national.
Thanks
Shaun
Do you mean the visa in is an old passport?
If so it used to be OK, you just needed to present both passports at immigration.
Things seems to be changing very quickly at the moment though so it would be better to check.
I found an agent today who can still get double entries without return ticket and hotel reservation.
It is China Visa Service, Block B, 10/F Flat B6, Chungking Mansion. The price for standard nationalities is 800 next day and 600 for 5 days processing.
Only those nationalities who are not on the list of 33 can get them.
I don't know about US citiziens.
I am in China now, I travel a lot and my tourist visa will expire the 20th May, I am french and I dont have HKID card (I will work in HK starting august).
When I read the previous messages, it means I cannot get re-new VISA to China ? How to do business there, then...
